The Ondo State House of Assembly has summoned the state Commissioner of Police to appear before it on Thursday with the Area Commander in-charge Ikare-Akoko Area Command, ACP Razak Rauf.
This followed a motion under matters of urgent public importance by the Majority Leader of the House, Jamiu Maito informing the House at plenary, of how a robbery suspect escaped from the police custody in Ikare- Akoko
Maito noted that it took his intervention and those of other prominent citizens of the community to prevail on youth in the area not to take the law into their hands.
Residents of Ikare -Akoko had on Wednesday staged a protest to demand the dismissal or redeployment of the Area Commander for allegedly aiding criminality and allowing an arrested armed robber to escape with handcuffs.
The protest crippled socio- economic activities in the community as protesters blocked major road from Akungba to Ikare and other roads to vent their anger.
Meanwhile, the Ondo state Commissioner of Police, Mr Andie Undie, has directed that a full scale investigation be conducted into the allegation leveled against the Area Commander in-charge Ikare-Akoko Area Command, ACP Razak Rauf for aiding criminality in the area.
Spokesman of the state police command, Femi Joseph said the force had received a petition from the people of Ikare- Akoko, calling for the redeployment of the Area commander
Joseph assured the people of Ikare that justice would be done to their petition as soon as possible.
He said, “The CP has received a petition from the people of Ikare- Akoko, he has directed that the allegation should be probed”
