Update: Federal University Oye Ekiti shut over students’ protest

Following Tuesday’s protest by Federal University Oye Ekiti, FUOYE which led to death of two students of the institution, the management  has announced immediate and indefinite closure of the institution 

The students had protested  against erratic power supply in the community.

The students blocked the high way thereby preventing vehicles from moving including the wife of the Governor who was on an official assignment in Oye Ekiti.

During the protest, police vehicle was set on fire while one of the policemen on the convoy of Wife of the Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi was attacked 

A statement issued by the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Kayode Soremekun on Tueday said the closure was to forestall further breakdown of law and order.

He also announced the disbanded of the students union of the institution indefinitely.

The  statement added, ” the students are expected to vacate the university premises latest by ten O’ clock this morning and further developments will be communicated to them in due course.

Spokesperson for the Ekiti state police command, Mr Caleb Ikechukwu said no student was killed.
