There was a mild drama at the promised Land Prophetic Ministry (formerly Christ Apostolic Church, Promised Land) located in the Shasha area of Akure as policemen invaded the church and dug the altar.
The officers who are from the Ondo State Police Command have invaded the church following an investigation into an allegation that the founder and pastor of the church, Gbenga Akinbiyi, was engaging in fetish practices.
It was gathered that the policemen acted on the instruction from the office of the Inspector-General of Police, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Some former members of the church had written a petition that the founder buried fetish objects at the altar in order to draw more crowd to the church.
Trouble started between the embattled pastor and some foundation members after he broke away from CAC and changed the name of the church some years ago.
Spokesman of the state police command, Mr Femi Joseph, said the policemen went to the church as part of the ongoing investigation into some allegations against the pastor.
He added that there are some allegations against the pastor of the church, stressing that ” What our men did in the church was part of the ongoing investigation,”
The embattled cleric said the allegation levelled against him is not true.
He stated, “I did not plant anything at the altar; it was the handiwork of some of my former members.
” I was the one that petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, initially, they didn’t want to dig the altar; I was the one that insisted that the altar must be dug. Everyone was there with the policemen on that day and they did not find anything planted at the altar.
He said the action is designed to rubbish him, adding that he would not hesitate to drag his detractors to court.
He added, “They have defamed my name and I won’t take it lightly. So, any moment from now we shall meet in the court.”
