Traders at the popular Fayose market in Ado Ekiti on Thursday protested against the exorbitant tax rate imposed on them by the Ekiti State Board of Internal Revenue.
The protest crippled business activities in the market as members of the public who patronize the market were stranded
Traders closed their shops and the various entrances to the market as part of measures to vent their anger.
Recall that government officials had few days ago sealed some of the shops in the market over failure of the traders to pay the new Value Added Tax rate which runs from #20,000 to #200,000 per shop.
But the traders who were mainly youths lamented that the new tax rate was killing and could force many of them out of business
The traders explained that most of them were graduates who ventured into phone business to meet up up daily needs due to lack of jobs.
