Adekunle Ajasin University produces 20 first class graduates
Vice Chancellor of the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba, Akoko, AAUA, Professor Igbekele Ajibefun said Government alone cannot fund Education in Nigeria.
Ajibefun said this while briefing newsmen in Akure, Ondo state capital on the activities lined up For the 9th Convocation Ceremony of the institution.
A total of 3,804 students are expected to graduate at the 9th Convocation ceremony of the University.
The Faculty of education has the highest number with a total of 1,112 graduands, followed by Faculty of sciences and social & management sciences with 810 and 786 graduands respectively.
Of the total figure for first degree, 20 candidates made first class, 933 earned second class and 2,007 bagged second class.
140 candidates will be conferred with masters while 28 will be conferred with postgraduate diploma.
Professor Ajibefun whose five years tenure as Vice chancellor of AAUA terminates in February 2020, said Public private partnership is required to improve the standard of education in Nigeria.
He said private organizations, philanthropist, parents and Agencies should all be carried along in achieving an improved system.
The University don stressed that it is the responsibility of every body to justify the need for the support of improved funding of education in Nigeria.
Responding to increment in Tuition Fees during his tenure as Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo and currently as Vice Chancellor of AAUA, Ajibefun said the quality of certificates students get from universities depend on the available resources in the Universities.
He said, “The increase in school Fee at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and Adekunle Ajasin university, Akugba Akoko has translated to improvement in the conditions of the polytechnic and university including academic standards, infrastructural facilities and general ranking of the institutions.
“The fact that i raised the university to an enviable height of the best state university in Nigeria is my best achievement”.
He said despite economic challenges, AAUA remains one of the best among its peers in Nigeria
The 9th convocation of the Adekunle Ajasin university, Akungba Akoko coincides with 20 years of the establishment of the Institution.
Prof Ajibefun expressed deep appreciation to the federal government for the laudable initiative through TETfund.
