Fire guts property worth millions in Ondo


Property worth millions have been gutted by fire at the workshop of the Skill Acquisition Centre of the Akoko Anglican Grammar School, Arigidi area of Ondo state.


 Items destroyed by the inferno included sewing machines, hairdryer and other valuables.


The fire,sources said, raged for almost one hour unabated.


It was learnt that people living around the school alerted the authority about the incident at about 9.00 am on Sunday.


The school is one of the few colleges and the only one in Akoko that benefitted from the Ondo state government UNDP assisted project during late Olusegun Agagu’s regime.



Efforts to speak with the principal of the college, Mr Afe Ajulo, failed.


A fire officer, who did not want his name mentioned, said there was no functional vehicle In Ikare station over a year.


The Ikare Akoko fire station is the nearest to the scene of the incident. The Police Area Commander for Ikare Akoko, Razak Rauf said police would visit the scene of the incident to know the extent of damage.
