The Ondo state council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has appealed to the state government to be more proactive in checkmating the spread of COVID-19 particularly inter states movement and alleged misconducts at Ondo state borders.
The union also urged the state government to ensure timely distribution of palliative items to the vulnerable people in the state, even as the state records second case of coronavirus.
In an Easter Message signed by the NUJ Chairman, Adetona Aderoboye and the State Secretary, Leke Adegbite, the Union encourages Christians to always emulate Jesus Christ’s virtues of sacrifice, steadfastness and uplifting the less privileged as they celebrate at this trying period of COVID-19.
The statement added, “The Executives and entire members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ondo State Council hereby felicitate with all media professionals and the people of the state especially Christian brothers and sisters on the occasion of this year’s Easter Celebration”.
The Union notes that since this year’s Easter is being celebrated amidst ravaging coronavirus pandemic, there is a need for government and wealthy individuals in the Sunshine state to show more love and concern in tackling the plight of suffering citizenry.
It enjoins Christians to put their faith in God and pray fervently to enable our land to overcome one of the most challenging periods in human history, urging journalists to stay safe in the coverage and reportage of COVID-19.
Ondo NUJ commends journalists, medical workers and other stakeholders who have been in the forefront of enlightening and disseminating awareness messages to the public that have helped the Ondo state government to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the state.
