Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi has directed that salaries of all political appointees in the State, be slashed by 50%, with immediate effect.
In a Statement Signed by the Commisoner for Information in the State, Muyiwa Olumilua, Fayemi said it is only appropriate to make this sacrifice for the welfare of the Ekiti people at this period of emergency.
The Governor explained that this move is necessary Consequent upon the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 scourge, which has affected global economy.
He added that it is proper to take stock of the financial situation, vis-a-vis the State’s constantly decreasing receipts from the federation account, as well as the dwindling internally generated revenue (IGR), which has forced everyone to wake up to the current realities of our fiscal position.
He revealed that Savings from this pay cut will be channelled into the execution, and completion of developmental projects in the State.
The pay cut will affect the Governor himself, the Deputy Governor, and all political appointees down the line.
However Salaries of civil servants will not be affected by this directive, and shall maintain status quo.
