Akeredolu orders payment of salary of Protesting resident doctors.

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has approved the payment of backlog of salaries owing the medical doctors working at the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED) teaching hospital.

The doctors on Friday staged a peaceful protest in Akure over the failure of the state government and the management of UNIMED to pay them between five and six months salary.

The protest halted   activities at the Akure hospital.

Akeredolu however said the process of paying the outstanding salaries of the newly recruited Doctors at the State University of Medicine’s Hospital, UNIMEDTH, has commenced.

Akeredolu stated this on his official Twitter handle that “I have just concluded an emergency meeting with the Head of Service to clarify and rectify this situation as it relates to newly recruited doctors.

“I have given approval to the commissioner of finance to raise the funds to commence payment of their arrears”.
