Plan by the Ondo state Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi to defect to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with a view to contesting for the October 10 governorship election has sent shivers down the spines of many aspirants in the PDP.
Agboola, a former member of the house of representatives has concluded plans to return to the PDP due to unreconcilable crisis between him and Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
The crisis has reached a crescendo that Agboola is tired of being in a party that he is not trusted.
Many aspirants in the PDP camp are now jittery following his planned move which has been fully sealed with the national leadership of the PDP.
Although, no date has been fixed for his defection, many PDP aspirants are now greatly worried because of political strength and sagacity.
Out of the 17 aspirants jostling for the PDP ticket, only six may purchase nomination forms.
As at the last count, only three have purchased their forms and have visited the party Secretariat to buy expression of interest forms.
The aspirants on the platform of the PDP are: the National Vice Chairman (South West) of the party, Dr. Eddy Olafeso, the party’s candidate in the 2016 governorship election in the state, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, a former House of Representatives member, Hon. Bode Ayorinde and a former Commissioner of Environment, Barrister Sola Ebiseni.
Others are: a former information commissioner, Hon John Ola Mafo, former Senator Boluwaji Kunlere, former council chairman, Hon Banji Okunomo, Bamidele Akingboye, former state chairman of the NUJ and a Special Adviser on Labour Matters, Hon Dayo Fadahunsi, Engr. Ogunwa Omoniyi Oboli, Barr. Bimpe Olatemiju and host of others.
A close aide of the Deputy Governor said the deal has been sealed for the Deputy Governor’s movement to the PDP.
He said, ” All things being equal, arrangements have been concluded for him to move. You cannot continue to stay in a place where you are not trusted”.
But a governorship aspirant, Banjo Okunomo said his ambition is not being threatened in any way by the Deputy Governor’s move, saying there is no automatic ticket for him.
