Ondo 2020: APC Women Group yearns for female Deputy Governorship slot

A women group under the All Progressives Congress (APC) , Aketi Women Campaign Network, has called for a woman to occupy the position of the deputy governor in their party.

The Coordinator of the Group,Princess Adebunmi Osadahun said this during a solidarity gathering on Tuesday in Akure, said it was unfair that the state had not produced a female deputy governor since the creation of the state in 1976.

Osadaun also said no woman had ever become a senator, aside only a house of representatives member, which she said sadly was not enough representation compared to votes being churned out by women.

She said that as the governorship election was on the way in the state, it is high time a woman became the running mate of the aspirant of the APC, Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

“Women have come a long way in our socio-political struggles in Ondo State without the expected recognition.

“Many credible women have served Ondo State Government good enough it is high time now for Ondo State ploughed back to us.

“I stand to believe that Ondo State has credible and capable women to lead as our other counterparts in the Southwest sister states.

“None has treated their women so irrelevant as Ondo State. Not even Ekiti State, a baby to Ondo State where women have been deputy governor and some women have been a third timer at
the Senate.

“Ondo State never had single femle senator since 1976, just 1 Member House of Reps at the coutesy of Pa Adefarati .

“The secretary to the state government is a no go area for Ondo State women,” she lamented.

She therefore urged Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu and the leadership of the party in the state to consider one of them for the deputy governorship slot.

“We are urging our governor to give us the deputy governorship slot. We have the numerical strength and capable women who are good enough to be picked as Akeredolu’s running mate,” she said.
