COVID-19 measures: Drama, as monarch flees Palace to escape youth’s attack

For daring to enforce COVID-19 measures, a monarch in Ekiti has incurred the wrath of some youths.

The aggrieved youths took advantage of this year’s Ogun Onire festival to unleash mayhem in the community.

They threw caution into the wind as they destroyed property in the palace of Onire of Ire Ekiti, Oba Bobade Adeleke.

They also vandalised police vehicle brought to douse tension in the community.

The Onire of Ire Ekiti, Oba Bobade Adeleke who confirmed this development, said the attack was sequel to the resolution of the Onire-in-Council which mandated the youths to obey covid-19 precautionary measures during the celebration of the Ogun festival.

The monarch explained that he was whisked away by his people when the angry youths attacked the palace with dangerous weapons.

When contacted on telephone, the Ekiti State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr Sunday Abutu said police was on top of the matter.
