The Senior Pastor of Awaiting the Second Coming of Jesus Christ Ministry, Akure,. Pastor Adewale Giwa has asked President Muhammadu Buhari to pay attention to crying of Nigerians on police brutality in the country.
Pastor Giwa stated this on Monday in Akure while speaking to newsmen on the state of the nation.
He noted that change of the Special Anti- Robbery Squads ( SARS) to Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) would not meet up to the yearning of Nigerians.
” If you are bringing SWAT, are you bringing foreigners to become members of SWAT? Is it not the same police? The same people in the same uniform, that is nonsense.
” I call on President Muhammadu Buhari to listen to the cries of Nigerians.
” They don’t want SARS, they don’t want SWAT, they should just reform police totally,” he stated.
According to him, people that join the police force are joining out of frustration, saying that is why they are killing innocent Nigerians.
The cleric added that the bad leadership in the country orchestrated the bad police force.
“When the head is no good, the whole body is not good. So, we don’t have good leadership in Nigeria. This thing has to do with leadership. When we have good leadership in Nigeria, police will not be killing innocent Nigerians the way they want. It is an act of irresponsibility,” Pastor Giwa noted.
The clergyman, who made reference to Biblical Abimelech, King of Israel that killed his relatives because he wanted to be a king, stated that those leaders that were bent on killing innocent Nigerians would end in shame and doom.
Giwa, therefore, explained that disintegration was the way out of Nigerian checkered problems, saying that restructuring would be an effort in futility.
” Disintegration is the ways out Nigeria’s problems. In Genesis Chapter 13, Abraham and Lot parted away. Parting away does not mean I cannot travel to the east. It doesn’t mean that the Ibo cannot come to the west.
” Abraham and Lot parted because their herdsmen were fighting and Abraham said, we are relatives, don’t let us fight, we can settle this amicably. If you go to the east,I will go to the west.
” Since 1960, we have not fixed our electricity and we have not fixed our economy. Now, a bag of rice is N42,000 in Akure here. It is ridiculous,” he stated.
He attributed the foundation of Nigeria’s problems to Flora Shaw, who named the country Nigeria and Lord Lugard, who joined the Southern Protectorate and Northern Protectorate together in 1914.
The cleric asked Nigerians to always pinpoint bad governance for the betterment of the polity, saying that it was only few people that called a spade a spade.
