Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has promised to assist the injured victims in Saturday’s road mishap in Akungba Akoko who are still in the hospital.
Saturday’s accident in Akungba claimed no fewer than Twenty lives.
The Governor who visited the scene of the ill- fated crash around 1pm, expressed displeasure at the incident and commiserated with the families of the victims.
He attributed the cause of many accidents to recklessness on the part of drivers and faulty vehicles.
Akeredolu said, “when we heard the incident that many people died, it was pathetic. something bad has happened, we will ensure givernment support for the injured victims still in hospital”.
“Many accidents are caused by reckless driving and unfit vehicles plying the roads.
“I want to appeal to our people to calm down despite the huge losses. Insurance shall cover many of the expenses. We must get the owner of the trailer and get their insurance company to pay.”
Earlier, the traditional ruler of the University community, Oba Sunday Adeyeye, Ajimo III, thanked the Governor for the timely visit and consoling counsel.
The monarch, also asked for compensation for the loss of lives and the hospitalised victims.
He, however, appealed to the Governor to help the community construct a dual carriage road in the community, or create an alternative road for heavy duty vehicles passing through the University town.
In his response, the Governor said experts shall be invited to review causes of incessant accidents in the area, and proffer a lasting solution.
“We will look for experts that will give us a lasting solution to prevent further road mishap,” Akeredolu assured.
