Ondo police react to alleged rape of four varsity students

The  police in Ondo State has faulted a media report that four  female students of the Olusegun Agagu University of Science were raped by gunmen.

The state command says there was no case of rape of female  students of the institution as reported in the media .

It was reported that the students of the institution on Thursday staged a peaceful in the town, against spate of insecurity , particularly the attacks on their female colleagues in their hostels by some hoodlums. No fewer than four female students were reported to have been raped by the hoodums.

The President of the  Student Union Government of the institution,
Damilola Okunomo had confirmed the raping of the students.

He said the students were tired of the level of insecurity in the area, noting that the hoodlums robbed  students of their valuables like phones, laptops, gadgets and rape female ones at gunpoint.

To this end , the management of the university ordered for the closure of the institution.

However, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami declared that there was no report of case of rape reported by the students of the institution to any security agencies.

He said since the case was not reported there was way the police could investigate it.

He said , ” We have been reading various  reports that gunmen raped the students of the university (OAUSTECH), this is not true, there are no gunmen in Okitipupa Community, to the best of our knowledge , no student is being raped.

” The students are living in the town , they do have problems with the local people there but that gunmen raped students is totally untrue. The closure of the university is not because of the issue of insecurity. “

According to the police boss, the area commander of the area was already  meeting with the stakeholders in the community over the matter .
