Akeredolu, NUJ, APC, mourn Bunmi Afuye, urge Security operatives to fish out killers 

Reactions have continued to trail the killing of Bunmi Afuye  by armed robbers on Thursday in Ilara-Mokin, Ifedore local government area of Ondo state.

Until, his demise, he  was
the  Public Relations Officer at the Elizade University, Ilaramokin.

He was one of the three persons killed by armed robbers who raided a bank in the town.

AKEREDOLU MOURNS BUNBAM

Ondo State Governor,  Rotimi  Akeredolu, SAN described the killing of Bunmi as a sad news

 According to a statement issued by the Governor’s press secretary, Olatunde Olabode, Akeredolu expressed his heartfelt condolences to the wife and children, family, the University community as well as the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ)

He directed security agencies to fish out  perpetrators of the heinous crime .

NUJ DECLARES SEVEN DAYS OF MOURNING

Also, the  leadership and Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ondo State Council received the gruesome killing  Olubunmi Afuye in a bank robbery with grief and disbelief.

The union in a statement issued by its chairman, Adetona Aderoboye and Secretary, Leke Adegbite, declared a  seven day of mourning in honour of our slain member popularly known as “BUMBAM”, Ondo NUJ.

The statement added, “His untimely killing by dare devil armed robbers at Ilaramokin is highest level of callousness, wickedness and unforgivable act of cutting short life of one of our Brightest, Cerebral and Versatile colleagues. It is indeed a case of ‘Sunset at Noon’ in Ondo State journalism fraternity.

“We will surely miss Bunmi’s huge contributions to Ondo NUJ and unionism in the state as he anchored last December’s NUJ Press Week and this year’s Workers’ Day celebrations free of charge while many of our members had benefitted from his media expertise.

“We register our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the wife, children,  family, Media Professionals (especially those at ORANGE FM/OSRC), Friends as well as Elizade University, Ilaramokin where Bunmi was recently appointed as the Public Relations Officer, over this irreparable  loss.

“We equally condole families and colleagues of the policeman and Motorcyclist killed in the bank robbery.

While declaring Seven Days of Mourning in honour of our slain member popularly known as “BUMBAM”.

The union tasked Onsecurity operatives to do everything humanly possible to bring the perpetrators of the heinous act to justice within shortest time.

ONDO APC REACTS

Also, the All Progressives Congress in the state has described the killing of Bunmi as shocking.

APC Spokesman, Alex Kalejaye in a statement issued in Akure, urged security agencies to swing into action, and track down the mindless killers

The statement added, “The killing of a seasoned journalist, Mr. Olubunmi Afuye, today by gunmen was shocking, and smacked of callousness. Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), laments the demented, and heartbreaking operation.

“Bunmi’s clear and penetrating voice was always captivating and attention catching. He was arguably one of the best around. He was amiable, but courageous, even till the untimely end.
“Without contention, the APC-led government places unequalled premium on security of lives and property. This singular event will further ginger the government to entrench its security tentacles even deeper.

“The party urges security agencies to swing into action, and track down the mindless killers of Olubunmi and others that were terminated at the scene, so they could face the wrath of the law.

“Ondo APC commiserates with the Nigerian Union of Journalists, particularly the State branch, the immediate families of the deceased, and pray God to grant the departed eternal rest.”
