Tears flowed freely as Olubunmi Afuye, the journalist that was killed during last Thursday’s bank raid by dare-devil armed robbers in Ilara-mokin area of Ifedore local government area of Ondo state was buried
Mr. Afuye was one of the three persons killed in the raid which left many people devastated.
His body was laid to rest at St Thomas’ Anglican Cemetery Isinkan, Akure, Ondo state.
Serving and past top government officials in Ondo state, journalism veterans, family members, friends, colleagues and church members witnessed the ceremony to bid him farewell.
Dignitaries at the event include the bishop of Akure anglican diocese, Rt. Reverend Simeon Borokini, member of Ondo state House of Hssembly, Toluwani Borokini who stood in for Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and the management of Elizade University Ilara mokin, led by the VC, Professor Olukayode Amund, as well as veteran Journalist, Chief Sanya Oyinsan.
Others include former commissioners in Ondo State, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye, Yemi Olowolabi, Director of News and Current Affairs at OSRC Ms. Nike Busari, her counterpart in Orange FM, Mr Akinwunmi Abodunde and the Vicar of St. Thomas Anglican church, Isikan, Venerable Thompson Akinboro.
At the funeral service earlier held at St Thomas Anglican Church Isikan, the officiating minister, Venerable Stephen Sanni described late Afuye as a dedicated Christian whose life was exemplary.
He said death is the end of every mortal which is why everyone must strive to please God and serve humanity.
Sanni expressed regrets that people continued to die needlessly across the country, stressing that life had become cheap in Nigeria.
Elder brother of the deceased, Sola Afuye who spoke on behalf of the family called on government to strengthen its fight against insecurity to end the untimely death of future champions in the country.
