Youth under the aegis of ‘Akure Youth Coalition’ (AYC) in Ondo state have given one Adewumi Babalola seven days to stop parading himself as a traditional ruler within the kingdom.
The youths said Adewumi currently constituted a security threat by declaring himself as a traditional ruler.
Addressing reporters in Akure, the youth said the Council of Ekiti State Traditional Ruler has written letters to denounce the title claimed by Adewumi.
Chairman of the AYC, Adekanbi Oluwatuyi, said activities of Adewumi were inimical to traditional norms of Akure Kingdom.
Adetunbi stated that many individuals have fallen victims to Adewumi whom he said also poised as a human right activist and social crusader.
He gave Adewumi seven ultimatum to vacate his office at the Oja Oba (Oba market) premises.
According to him, “We call on security agencies to investigate home without further delay. Adewumi Babalola shouod stop parading himself as a traditional ruler forth with.
“We shall do everything possible within the ambit of the law to stop him from bastardizing our collective heritage in Akure kingdom.”
Adewumi, in his reaction, said he was installed Oba of all Ekiti indigenous residing in Ondo State just as other tribes have their Obas.
He claimed he invited notables Ekiti indigenes to his installation adding that a former Chairman, Council of Obas in Ekiti State was present when he was presented with certificate of office.
His words, “Ekio is an organization of all Ekiti indigenous in Ondo State. Other tribes have their Obas in Ondo. All the Ekiti indigenes living in Akure made me their head. I am the first Ekiti indigenes Oba in Ondo State.
On the seven days ultimatum for him to vacate his office, Adewumi said the office at the market is under jurisdiction of the local council authorities.
