General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Ibadan, Major General Gold Chibuisi has stressed the need for military personnel to be more dedicated to the fight against insurgency in the country.
Chibuisi spoke at the closing ceremony of the 2 division Nigerian Army Inter Brigade Corporal and Below Competition held at 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, Ondo State
Five formations and units participated in the competition which included map reading; weapon handling; combat swimming and drilling among others.
The formations and units that participated in the competition are; 4 Brigade, Benin; 22 Brigade, Ilorin; 32 Artillery Brigade, Akure; 42 Engr. Brigade/52 Sig. Brigade/ Engr. cantonment, Ibadan and 2 Div. Gerison/ 81 Bn(R), Ibadan.
The event ended with the 10km combat race among the formations.
Chibuisi said high level of discipline and hardwork put in place during the competition would help in tackling insurgency.
He said, “I wish to point out that the attitude, discipline and hardwork you put forth during the 2022 corporal and below competition is commendable and must be sustained.
“You are all aware of contemporary security confronting our dear country currently, ranging from the Boko-harram, ISWAP terrorists, Banditry, Kidnappings, cult clashes and ritual killings among others.
“Hence, this competition was carefully designed to brush you up on basic tactics and other skills you require to confront these challenges,”he said.
Chibuisi, who said there is no report of indiscipline among the troop during competition, encouraged all the participants to maintain high standard of discipline and professionalism as they return to their formations and units.
He therefore, appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya for providing the resources to make the event a reality, saying the division would continue to contribute fully to the actualisation of the vision of COAS.
While appreciating Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State for his untiring supports to the troop in the state, Chibuisi thanked the people of the state for their hospitality and security agencies in the state for their cooperation.
32 Artillery Brigade, Akure, outclassed other formations to come first at the end of the competition.
