Progressives young women seek active participation of young ladies in politics

The fastest way to improve the society is to give young women opportunities to thrive in Nigerian politics.

This forms part of the discourse at a round table stakeholders meeting of Progressives young women in politics held at the international culture and event center (Dome) Akure.

The program, which was put together by Temitope Iwagun had in attendance Governor of Ondo state,Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, who was represented by Director General Performance and Project Implementation Monitoring Unit,Babajide Akeredolu,
Apc State chairman Egnr Ade Adetimehin who was represented by Sir Charles Fagbohunka APC Organising Secretary,
Secretary to the State Government, Princess Barr. Oladunni Odu, Commissioner for women affairs,Juliana Osadahu,APC State Women Leader, Mrs Morenike Witherspoon Amongst others.

Speaking at the event, Engineer Babajide Akeredolu (DG PPIMU) encouraged women to be more strategic and logical in there participation in politics. He further affirmed the governor’s commitment to ensuring that more women are being incorporated in political positions in Ondo State.

of APC Progressive Young Women Forum (PYWF) Ondo State chapter, Temitope Iwagun in her speech laid emphasis on the importance of women supporting women as a means of building capacity of women in politics.

She encouraged women to be actively involved in politics.

 

She said ‘’Women have the largest population they will thrive in politics if give more opportunities”.

She further stated that women are not seeking to compete with men,
But women are to compliment the men, she implored men to give enabling grounds and support women’s aspirations and ambition.

The APC Progressive Young Women Forum (PYWF) State Contact Rep. 2, Mrs Lara Akinrogbe,while giving the welcome address affirmed that women are the world, and the world is women, where there is no woman , there is no nation and without a nation, there can’t be politics, hence women should be treated with utmost priority in political dealings.

Commissioner for Women affairs and social development, Dr. Juliana Osadahu,who was also present at the event expressed her satisfaction over the readiness of women to be more proactive. She stated that as a woman, one must understand that politics is not a spectators game, and for someone to be relevant in politics it involves full participation.

While stressing the fact that a political position can not be gained on a platter of gold, she encouraged women to be more politically inclined and grassrooted in their various constituencies & wards .

She further stated that women are less favourably evaluated than men, and in order to be relevant in politics as a woman you need a trust base home support, good helping hands, self confidence, and basically one must be educated.

The Round-table discussion with the major objective to identify, tackle and proffer sustainable solutions to the challenges women face in the Nigerian modern-day politics, thereby creating a realistic path for every young woman interested in politics, had in attendance, over 500 participants across the 203 wards in Ondo State.

Special Recognition was given to the First Lady of Ondo state arabirin Betty Anyanwu Akeredolu, Apc caretaker committee woman leader to Hon Stella Okotete, and the interim National president progressive young women forum Seun Osamaye for their brilliant efforts in setting the pace for you women to thrive in politics
