People of Owode and adjoining communities in Akure North Local Government Area will soon heave a sigh of relief from fatal road crashes caused by over speeding of motorists who ply the Oba-Ile- Airport Road.
Addressing the people of Owode and other stakeholders including the DPO of Oba-Ile Division of the Nigeria Police, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Union Matters and Special Duties, Mr Dare Aragbaiye said the State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN, is always pained each time life is lost as a result of reckless driving on the highways.
The Special Adviser outlined some measures which the State Government would soon put in place to ensure that incessant ghastly motor accidents on the road become a thing of the past.
The measures include the deployment of Traffic Wardens to strategic areas where there are schools along the road; display of traffic road signs like zebra crossing; installation of speed breakers; crash barriers and removable bumps.
While appreciating the people for not taking laws into their hands, Mr
Aragbaiye pleaded with them to always take cognizance of traffic regulations either as pedestrians, cyclists or motorists.
He said the it was a deliberate desire of the Akeredolu Administration to make citizens have pleasurable and safe ride on all roads across the state, but that the kind gesture should not be abused by turning the roads to death traps as a result of overspeeding.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Mr David Olumorin, presented a Letter of Appeal for the construction of bumps on the road to forestall the repeat of road crashes which he said have claimed the lives of some indigenes of the community.
He appreciated the State Government for its prompt action on their request.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Alhaji Jimoh Dojumo; the Acting Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Infrastructure, Lands and Housing, Engr. Allen Idowu and the DPO of Oba-Ile, Chief Superintendent of Police Boluwale Boluwaji were present at the meeting.
