The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has revealed that Ondo State government promises to pay workers outstanding salaries before the year runs out.
This is just as the Nigerian Civil Service Union, NCSU commended the Ondo State Government for the payment of workers two month salary arrears in the state recently, even as the Ondo council of NCSU gets new Executive Council Members.
The NLC state leadership appealed to workers in the state to patient with Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, assuring that the outstanding arrears would be paid before the end of this year.
The State Chairman of NLC and National President of the Union, Comrade Sunday Adeleye-Oluwole, disclosed this on Wednesday in Akure while speaking at the 7th Quadrennial State Delegates Conference of the NSCU, where Comrade Ademola Olapade was reelected as the Ondo State Chairman of the Union.
Adeleye said that Governor Akeredolu had earlier hinted on January 4 that the arrears would be cleared.
He added that the Governor also reiterated his promise two months earlier before the commencement of the payment last week.
While describing the Governor as someone that never broke his promises, Adeleye appealed to the workers in the state to be patient with the state government.
“Mr Governor is not someone that will renege on his promise but not withstanding, they should continue to mount pressure on the Head of Service and Special Adviser on Labour Matters to continue to remind Me Governor”, he stated.
Adeleye-Oluwole who is also the Ondo State Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, added that the Governor had also promised that the ongoing Oda Road construction would be completed as soon as possible.
In his address, the NCSU Chairman, Ondo State Council, Prince Olapade Ademola appreciated the Governor for his friendly disposition to workers, security and developmental strides across the Sunshine State.
Ademola, while also saluting Akeredolu for meeting up with promotion of deserving workers as when due, he appealed that the outstanding salaries should be cleared.
Speaking, the of Service, Pastor John Adeyemo assured the workers that the state government would clear the remaining outstanding salaries before the year runs out.
Adeyemo, who was represented by Director of Industrial Relations, Department of Establishment and Training, Mr Bosun Adu craved the indulgence of the workers to bear with the government.
He congratulated the Ondo NSCU Chairman in the state for the peaceful transition of power.
In his fraternity message, the representative of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Mr Michael Afolayan felicitated the union, wishing them fruitful and result oriented conference, charging them ti keep to their motto: service and motto.
After the election, Ademola was reelected as the Ondo State Chairman of NCSU, promising to continue agitation for good welfare of the union members. Other elected officers were Comrade Akande Adesuyi (State Vice Chairman), Ayo-Ajayi Oluwatoyin (Treasurer), Lucky Omoboyowa (Auditor) and Ekundayo Omojowo (Trustee).
