A Non Governmental and Civil Society Organisation, DROMI, has strongly condemned the widely reported incident of the gang rape of a secondary school girl at Akure High School in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
The condemnation was contained in a statement personally made available to journalists by the Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of the women’s development organization, Dr Rhoda Makinde.
She described the rape of the hapless girl as barbaric.
Makinde frowned at the act perpetrated by the male colleagues on the innocent girl.
She said,, “this act is devilish and satanic. Rape or gang-raping of a girl, especially a female student or female victim, should be condemned and rejected in our society.
” I firmly believe that anyone who could forcefully coerce a female in a situation like this could kill, if not checkmated.
“The law on rape is clear, and as such, this case shouldn’t be swept under the carpet”
She commended the immediate arrest of the perpetrators and implored the government and security agencies to ensure that the rapists are made to face the full wrath of the law to serve as a deterrent to others who may be thinking of doing such in the future.
