Sunshine Queens Football of Akure is not abandoned, Ondo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development Mr Bamidele Ologunloluwa has disclosed.
He revealed that why much has not be heard about the team in recent times was because they were relegated last season, saying the management and coaching crew of the team are working seriously to ensure the former 2015 Federation Cup champions return to the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL)
The commissioner stated this in a chat with newsmen in Akure, the state capital.
He added that the management of the club will do everything legitimately possible to ensure the team come back to the Women Elite League.
He said: “It was unfortunate that the team got relegated, but relegation is part of football, we will stand with the team to return to the (NWFL)”.
“Since they went on relegation last year, we maintained the players on ground and also recruited fresh legs that can complement the players we have on ground to return the team to the Women Elite league.”
“We motivate them, despite the fact they were on relegation, we did not reduce their salaries and it has always been paid regularly.”
“When they complained about their hostel, we also ensured that we get them a befitting hostel to make them feel comfortable and relax ahead of their championship play off scheduled for Abuja in the next few weeks.”
The team will be engaging in competition that will put them keep them in shape ahead of their play off.
“We thank the sports loving Governor of the state ,which has been supporting the team since he came onboard.”
