National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, NANNM, Ondo State Chapter wishes to state its position amidst current economic hardship and visitations to some Top Government’s officials by political groups claiming to be nurses.
That the association disowns members of this particular political group who parades themselves to represent the interest of the nurses in Ondo State, we want to categorically say that only the National Association Of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) is legally recognized to speak with government on behalf of nurses and midwives in Ondo State.
We wish to state clearly that on the issue of palliatives for our members, we have already written and submitted our positions/demands to the state government through the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC) earlier before now. These demands are being attended to.
We also wish to assure our members that all our outstanding entitlements are being worked out with the State Government, even as our Hazard allowance has been taken of by the government.
For avoidance of doubt, our Association has equally written to the State Government on the need to grant NANNM leadership audience to articulate our demands for timely implementation. We assure that nurses in the state are not going to be Shortchanged.
We also want to say that the association does not have a political group within the association empowered to speak on behalf of the nurses, as it is illegal for any group or anybody to parade themselves as the representative(s) of the nurses.
It is illegal and unlawful for anybody to be impersonating nurses or to be claiming to speak for nurses when there is no such mandate from us.
Consequently, we advise top government officials to be mindful of different political groups who could cause unnecessary industrial unrest in the health sector for their selfish political gains. We wish to warn our members to wary of their political engagements, as we will not hesitate to sanction any erring member that violates the relevant code of conduct of the nursing profession.
Signed:
Comrade Kehinde Olomiye
Chairman
Comrade Olabisi Ayenioye
Secretary.
