The leadership of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria Ondo state chapter has congratulated former Sunshine Stars Captain Abe Sunday on his retirement from active football.
In a statement jointly signed by the Chairman of the Association, Mr Segun Giwa and Secretary, Joseph Adesuyan, acknowledged the contributions of Abe to the development of football in Ondo State.
The association further lauded the Ondo State Football Agency for appointing Sunday Abe as a Match Analyst, saying the Ex- international’s wealth of experience is still needed in the club.
”Ondo SWAN heartily congratulates the Ex- international on his retirement from active football. He has done so much as a player to unify the team for more successes in national and continental competitions.
“We also want to thank the Ondo State Football Agency ODSFA under the leadership of the Executive Chairman, Bamidele Ologunloluwa for appointing Abe as Match Analyst,”
Abe Sunday who had represented Nigeria, playing the U-17 AFCON and World Cup qualifiers as well as the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt before graduating to the national U-23 team and the home-based Super Eagles in 2010, had earlier announced his retirement from football at a news conference in Akure, the state capital.
Sunday was the Skipper of Sunshine Stars till the 2023/2024 season in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
